An Army of Ordinary Peoplecontains the key to explosive, transformational, 21st century evangelism. Renowned church planter Felicity Dale shares stories of how God has always used--and is still using--ordinary believers to carry out his work in simple ways throughout the world. Some of these stories are dramatic--people being led to the Lord by the friends who counseled them through drug addictions and criminal pasts. Some are everyday--a dad spending his Sunday teaching Bible lessons to his kids, or a couple inviting their neighbors over to dinner and a spiritual discussion. But in each of them, there is a light bulb moment, when someone just like you thinks I can do that! And as a result, the gospel is spreading . . . and lives are being changed.… (mer)

NCLA Review -This is a collection of stories of how “ordinary people” have started one type of house churches. The authors believe “When two or three born-again believers come together in His name, Jesus is in the midst. Jesus in the midst is CHURCH!” The pattern is to offer to hold a Bible study in a prospective convert’s home, and then continue to meet there regularly for Bible study, worship, and fellowship meals. The groups multiply as anyone who feels led to do so (even “babes in Christ”) finds another prospective convert and repeats the process. The purpose of this book is to encourage all Christians to become “church planters.” I was left with many serious questions and a strong feeling that the reader is not getting a full picture. This is a simplistic evangelistic effort confused with church. I applaud their zeal and some of their creative approaches. However, I would not recommend the book for a church library because I feel it is misleading and feeds dissatisfaction with the organized church and suggesting an unhealthy alternative. "An Army of Ordinary People" is an inspirational novel aimed at believers and nonbelievers. This is a collection of true stories about everyday people who practice "simple church" in their lives, homes, neighborhoods and workplaces. A church is not to be referred to as a building, but is meant for you to share your faith with others. Simple men and women have started their own churches in their homes, coffee shops, colleges, hospitals, retirement homes and even prisons. Some have even started dozens of churches at one time. I was hesitant about reading this book, afraid that it would preach too much. After reading the first story, that all changed. There was no preaching in it. The stories are heartwarming and inspirational. You don't have to have a degree in theology or religion to start your own church. All you need is your faith in God. Note: I would like to thank Tyndale House for sending me this complimentary copy. ( )
