An interesting story set around 1970's societal attitudes as well as cultural issues set on the Hawaiian Islands. ( ) A fantastic book that primarily takes place in Hawaiian the early 70's. Cathrine who is 21 and from a small bush town in Australia, is given a birthday gift to travel to London. She meets Bradley a U S navel officer and falls in love. They hook up in his new posting in Honolulu and get married. This is a coming of age book but the person coming of age is in her 20's during a time of great social change. While parts of the story are predictable, the storytelling is so good, that this as well as the American cliches and stereotypes can be overlooked. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

When Catherine Moreland from rural Australia goes on her first trip abroad, a handsome American naval officer sweeps her off her feet and she goes to live in beautiful, romantic Hawaii with her new husband. At first, the magic and loveliness of the Islands lead Catherine to believe she is living in paradise. She befirends Kiann'e, a traditional dancer; Eleanor, the owner of the legendary Palm Grove Hotal; Lester, a reclusive old surfer; and royal Beatrice, leading the fight to maintain Hawaii's heritage and culture. However, as Catherine learns more about the Islands, she begins to discover that paradise has a darker side. And when she meets a mystery man of the sea, as though hit by a tsunami her life is turned upside down and changed forever. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
