She was one of 17 children. Besty and her family were Quakers. Besty would sew the little white caps the Quaker girls wore. She meets a man named John they fall in love and gets married despite her family's disapproval. John joined the military, and while guarding one of the ammunition house, it exploded. Besty was approached by George Washington to design the American flag. He believed the flag would show the colonies untied. Besty grandson made her story public so she would never be forgotten. ( ) This is a picture book biography about Betsy Ross. It is a partial biography because it tells about her life from birth until she makes the first flag for the United States. It is an easy reader meant to be read by 1st and 2nd graders. It has facts about her and the historical period. The illustrations will help students see and understand the clothing and daily life of Betsy Ross and others during that time period.
