Tras el seudónimo de Marthe Blau, se oculta la identidad de una joven abogada parisina que recrea en clave de ficción sus experiencias sadomasoquistas con un magistrado. La protagonista del relato, Elodie, ejerce la abogacía en París, está casada, tiene un hijo y disfruta de una vida normal junto a su familia y sus amigos, todos gente de buena posición. Hasta que un buen día se siente irremediablemente subyugada por la incisiva mirada de un juez. Desde ese momento comenzará una relación de sometimiento sin límites a la voluntad de su amante, en la que el placer, el dolor, la entrega sin concesiones, el orgullo y la dignidad, adquirirán un nuevo significado.

Never has a book infuriated me with a character until this one. Elodie is a complete moron, this is not a novel about normal sub/dom relationships. The character in this book is mentally ill and needs help. If you want to be pissed off and not turned on at all by her pathetic internal pleadings then, by all means, read this book. If you're looking for a sexy novel on sub/dom culture and relationships then stay the fuck away. ( )

Elodie, een Parijse advocate, onderwerpt zich aan een collega, en wordt zijn speeltje en slavin. Het verhaal is monotoon, en de bordkartonnen personages wekken geen enkel gevoel op. Om de paar pagina's een feestje, waarbij altijd champagne wordt gedronken. Alle vrouwen staan gretig klaar om gezoend en geneukt te worden, en bij kleren, handtassen en ondergoed wordt steevast het merk vermeld. Elodie leest Marie-Claire. This book contains an interesting voice that becomes tedious and repetitive about half-way through. It seemed the author was reaching for the prize of The Greatest Unrequited Lust. Both of the main characters' machinations kept the story moving, but the end falls apart. It is quite possible that if something was lost in this translation, it was that the ability to keep this reader in sympathy with the character failed--gradually at first--and finally and irrevocably at the end of the book.
