Daughter returns island to man the house while mom goes to France. She becomes victim of a scam, matures alot and finds her love. This book was alright Mostly told from a 23 year olds point of view which is hard if you aren’t 23, therefore not ver authentic, and the main character is bitchy, opinionated, highly judgmental, and though book smart she isn’t very life smart. Most of the story was silly and totally far fetched. Good location and descriptions. Enjoyed reading about the low country after having recently visited it. The main character, daughter Beth acted so immature for a college graduate and if she did not have the black maid friend I'm not sure how she would have survived at all. Beth is against changes then is willing to invest her trust money to the development due to love? The reason given at the end was not believable enough for any of the results. Liked the little back and forth e-mails between her mother and aunt. Also the comments between Beth and her aunt Sophie. Disappointed that Woody did not see thru the con-man especially when Max was so willing to drop Beth as his girl. Did not care for the ending. Generally I love this author's books. She's pretty much a no fail read for me. But I just didn't like the lead character in this book. The premise for the story sounded cute but the lead character Beth seemed so childish. I know she is only a twenty something, and that she made some bad decisions in part because she was so young. And maybe she was kind of flaky because of her age. But she was a recent college graduate that felt greatly inconvenienced because her family asked her to stay in their beach house for free for the year. Also, since Cecily seems like the most mature character in the book, I got to the end and wondered why they didn't just pay her to house sit. I love southern fiction, but this book was terrible. The main character was very whiny for a 23 year old, and mostly acted like a brat. I felt like the writing in this book was ordinary and, while there were plenty of words, they didn't paint a good picture of the scenes. From what I understand, this book is unlike the rest of Dorothea Benton Frank's books, so perhaps I will try a different one. I don't recommend this one at all. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
