This book is full of poems about al kinds of animals. One was about a cow and how much she cares about her caregiver. It also talks about how the cow would thank her caregiver by providing milk and cream for her and her family. Another poem was about ducks and how they are different when in different areas. It talks about how when ducks are on land they walk and look funny but when they are in the water they look very graceful as they glide.
Personal Reaction:
I really liked the poems but I think I would have enjoyed them more if they were humorous. These poems were mostly about house pets and like farm animals I wish it had more of a variety. These poems reminded me of all the pets I used to have as a kid. The pictures went really well with the poem they did a good job with help to understand the poem.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1.) Have the children pick their favorite animal and write things about them such as color, shape, size, and what they do and as a class come up with a poem.
2.) When learning about animals this book could be read and could help them understand what they do for living you can also have them draw one of the animals and where they live.
