I loved these books growing up. I read the majority of them starting with Knights of the Kitchen Table. In these early chapter books, Joe, Fred, and Sam find a magical book that can transport them to anytime period. In this one, they travel to medieval times and face grave dangers, black knights, and bad giant B.O. The gang has to find their magical book in order to escape and get back home safely. These are great books to have the class read together or to have a book report on. They are generally targeted towards younger boys but can be just as entertaining to girls as well. These books give a silly representation of time periods of the past, (although there is one set in the future) and show a different side to historical characters that we thought we knew. These books really bring out the best when it comes to the joy of reading. ( )
