Cashay and Sashay were two sisters who found joy in the little things in life despite the fact that they were poor and living in a tough neighborhood in Chicago. Then, one day while walking home from school, Sashay was killed by a stray bullet on the street. Life became unbearably hard for Cashay. In addition to losing her sister, she lost her mother as her mother began using drugs. After an incident in school, the school counselor sets Cashay up with in an after school program that provides Cashay with a mentor who really cares and who helps Cashay uncover her potential. This is a story of unlikely friendships, recovery and hope. Adults, especially those who work with youth, will enjoy this book, too! inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

This book is short enough that I read it in one day, but the characters and content have so much richness that I went back to the beginning and read it again. Every
character became a real person to me and I hoped the author would help each of them find their way in the world. Cashay especially inspired me with the way she
tackled her problems, even when she was scared. I am looking forward to reading more of Margaret McMullan’s books.
