The Summer I Turned Pretty was introduced to me by my niece who wanted to watch the TV series. Curiosity got the better of me so I went to check out the book and oh boy did the summary look so promising. That was when I realised the book was by Jenny Han.

The Summer I Turned Pretty revolves around Isabel (or Belly) and her yearly summer visits to her mother's best friend's beach house where the boys were. That summer was the summer where everything changed and discoveries were made. The summer that boys started to notice Belly and the summer with lots of firsts.

Overall, The Summer I Turned Pretty is an enjoyable read that follows Belly's journey on her first crush and feeling included in the group that she longed for, where she wanted to be in. What surprised me was how heavy the book got towards to end and how fast the story ended. Belly isn't the perfect girl. There were times when I was annoyed with her whining and how she treated her best friend who tagged along with her. I feel the author's use of backstory with the characters helped in making us relate to them even better. I'll be reading the second book to find out what happens to the characters after the book ended. ( )

This might be one of the worst books I've ever read in my life. Not one character has any redeeming qualities. The entire story was toxic and everyone was a walking red flag parade.

I, frankly, cannot believe this is the same author that wrote TATBILB. ( )
