It's hard to get into the world of the book at first, harder still to root for any of out hr people in it. But once you're into it, the book becomes un-put-down-able! Starting the next one asap! ( ![]() This book was very suspenseful and seeded some very interesting ideas that will hopefully pan out in the sequels. Reading some other reviews, I saw that people were annoyed by the lack of information and there is a definite "huh?" quality as you read it. However, I found that to perfectly reinforce the main characters confusion/ memory loss and served to heighten the suspense. Rating: 65% (3.25 stars) This book was really great, however I felt almost as if the mini-problems in the book were solved a little bit to easily. Also, I was not so sure I liked the ending, but overall it was a good book! It's not great literature or anything, but it sure caught my attention early, and it's one of the better non grown-up books I've read in a while. I do wish it'd been a little longer, and just one book. I don't plan to read any more in the series because it's hard to imagine they'll improve in quality, and I'd rather read better stuff to my kids than what I think the remainder of the series is likely to be.
The story reads like a maze with erroneous turns, dead ends, and a plot that should work but falls short. James Dashner has created a thrilling dystopian novel. The Maze Runner has a great hook, and fans of dystopian literature, particularly older fans of Jeanne DuPrau's The City of Ember (Random, 2003), will likely enjoy this title and ask for the inevitable sequel. With a fast-paced narrative steadily answering the myriad questions that arise and an ever-increasing air of tension, Dashner's suspenseful adventure will keep readers guessing until the very end.
