This highly motivational video and textbook program provides training in basic communication tasks encountered by entry-level workers. Each of the ten video segments and corresponding text chapters explores well-researched, authentic problems derived from actual workplace situations and incidents. The program features five main characters, who represent the cultural and ethnic diversity of the American workforce, and five typical workplace settings: hotels/motels, hospitals, nursing homes, convenience stores, and maintenance sites.Each lesson features: -- Thinking About the Topic to encourage students to contemplate the general topic of each lesson and express what they already know about it.-- Learning to Listen exercises to help students make sense of language, tone of voice, background knowledge, context, gestures, action, and interaction.-- Information about American culture that promotes class discussion about cultural variations.
