This is the story of Maggie who is struggling to support her two children and one grandchild as a caregiver and cleaner. Her life is one relentless cycle of work and caring for her family and she has become quite bitter and negative.
I felt there could have been a little levity in the story, although towards the end there was a little lifting of the tone.
I found it reminiscent of Deborah Moggach's style of writing. ( )

At times I found Maggie to be completely stupid and naive when dealing with her children. Life for Maggie was hard and I hoped all through this book that she would find the positives in her life and I was not disappointed.

A moving novel that contains warmth, love, affection and hope. ( )

Despite the mainly depressing features of the characters' lives - low pay, disability, lack of stimulation - it becomes a heartening and tender story of friendship - although ultimately tragic there is progress in the main character's life. Beautifully written and unique. Quite difficult to describe as it cannot be characterised by genre. ( )
