It's entertaining and you don't want to put it down. Q5P5 AHS/Kayla S

Synopsis:Guess who's jetting to the Holy Land this summer!Remember me, Amy Barak-Nelson—a.k.a the queen of disaster? In case you forgot, my boyfriend Avi is in the Israeli army. A visit is definitely in order.Somehow my grandmother convinced me to sign up for two weeks of pure hell in a military training base. Getting up before dawn, peeing in a hole, and playing war games in the desert isn't my idea of fun. But what's worse? Our team leader turns out to be Avi!Review:This is more of a 3.5 rather than a 4. This time Amy's adventure takes her to Israeli Defence Force boot camp. And she has her friends with her also. But her motives are far different from theirs. She only wants to see Avi and spend time with him. Except he's a soldier now and can't just drop out of duty just to be with his girlfriend ( he has no idea she's arriving, I might add). For the most part, again, this story was fun and Amy was as witty as ever. However she's taken a turn for worse by becoming a little too ignorant and whiny. She doesn't get why Avi can't spend time with her, or why they can't just make out like a boyfriend/girlfriend. She's naive to the max and it does become annoying after a while. She also gets a little too self-centred when it comes to her friends. Her whole world suddenly revolves around seeing Avi, speaking to Avi and getting Avi into trouble. But by the end she does redeem herself and all loose ends are tied up. The ending didn't seem like a proper finale so I do hope the Elkeles thinks about writing a 4th.Overall, not as good as the first two but heartwarming, funny and lighthearted. ( )

So, I loved this book :) The characters were so real, I wanted Avi as my boyfriend! Anyways, usually I like a writer's dialogue the most, but I really liked the plot and characters in this book. The plot had lots of funny, sad, and happy twists and turns, and it kept you in suspense but not so much that you felt like the characters wouldn't overcome their problems. Also, this book is the third in a series, but it didn't feel like it. When Amy has little flashbacks, it doesn't feel like boring backstory, which is what I loved about this story. I also loved the characters. You have Avi, the hunky and chiseled soldier boyfriend who has a sensitive side that makes you melt. And then, you have Nathan who is a pervy yet funny best guy friend. Then there are Jess and Miranda, the two best friends. Tori, the resident witch with a b. And finally, Amy. She is an American princess with Jewish roots who has come to see her boyfriend, but sees something WAY different. All the characters were loveable and hatable, Elkeles makes her characters seem so real! In short, I adored this book. Hopefully, I'll pick up the first two tomorrow! ( )

This was a very cute, fun and quick book to read. It had a lot of humor in it. Amy is a princess, not a real princess, but in the sense that she needs the best of everything. But when she gets to military camp and realizes that it's not a 5 star hotel, she wonders why she ever agreed to go.
The best part of the book is that her boyfriend, Avi, is her team leader. But the way that Amy remembers him from back home isn't the same way that Avi is now that he is back on his home land. In the military Avi can't pay attention to Amy and spend time with her, like the pictures in Amy's head as she was thinking about seeing him. But there is one big blow-out in the book that I did not see coming.. Avi has a little secret of his own and when Amy finds out, she is not happy!
This was a very cute YA book. Would recommend it to anyone who likes a quick, fun, and funny read! ( )

The summer after [How to Ruin my Teenage Life], and Amy is going off to a military bootcamp in Israel to surprise Avi. But all's not well with their relationship- while Amy couldn't stop thinking about Avi, he was off kissing other girls. Maybe they're just too different.

I didn't like Nathan nearly as much- he wasn't as big a character, but it was true that he was acting like a player. Amy adresses this, but I still wish it was different.
And I wish there was more with Miranda.
The beginning was necessary for readers who this is the first book of the series they've read, but for those of us who read the 2nd book, it was just extremely repetive and I just wanted THIS story to start. And seriously, the last line, how lame was that?
That said though...
I liked this book better than the second. Don't go thinking it's awful- I'm like Amy (in a lot of ways actually) it's easier for me to talk about the bad of a book.
I did see how Amy was a little whiny, but character development was in work with that. But I loved how Amy knew what her problems and little quirks were.
There was more character development in this book, for sure.
4 1/2 stars again. ( )
