Introduce your students to the fascinating world of physical science. Kids naturally love experimenting with everyday elements in the world around them, especially when it comes to messy chemical experiments and jaw-dropping physics adventures. With Hands-On Physical Science, teachers have a way to channel that enjoyment by introducing more than 75 exciting, hands-on experimental lessons in physical science to their students. This book gives teachers everything they need to set up exciting classroom activities such as an examination of Newton's laws by building Alka-Seltzer(tm) rockets, a lesson on energy through the design and building of roller coasters, and a look at chemical and physical changes through the creation of paper. With its fantastic experiments and simple instructions for teaching the complex topics of chemistry and physics, Hands-On Physical Science should be included in every upper elementary and middle school science teacher's curriculum.… (mer)

Excellent resource for use in our Homeschool setting. I was looking for ideas to help me come up with labs for my 6th graders. Experiential learning in our home is important and this book fits the bill. It also has all the rubrics, which makes giving feedback very easy!
I received a copy of this book as part of the Early Reviewers program. ( )

This book is a great resource for science teachers. It is full of great and engaging resources for students. The activities are well written and detailed. There are student worksheets that accompany the activities that are appropriate. I really liked the station cards. Teachers will be able to copy and laminate the cards and use them for years to come. Finally, the rubrics that are also included is a huge time saver for teachers. Overall, this is an extremely useful and practical resource. ( )

This is a WONDERFUL resource book for youth who love to do things with their hands. It includes experiential study chapters in both physics and chemistry with full explanation of experiments for the student. And they are designed to be inexpensive. A grading rubric is included as well. I look forward to using this great book as a major text in our chemistry study this next school year. Thanks, Ms. Westphal, for a great asset in our home school library.

Some nice activities in here. Not a very interesting presentation - black and white text mostly without illustrations, with no apparent online/technology integration makes this a hard sell to programs looking to incorporate or switch to this resource.

This is a great resource for turning physical science into a more exploration-based, hands-on class. The labs allow for experimentation with lots of strategies leading to success, rather than asking students to follow exact instructions. Students are to test things to find what they believe will best meet a goal.

The lessons are clear and appear easy to implement without much expense and further research. I am a classroom teacher who has read many books of big ideas that are quite impractical for a classroom with about 30 students. This book feels attainable, and I am excited to give it a try.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )
