First one I've read in this series. Lots of period detail. (

I lost track of this series after the second book. The first two I found were written under the pseudonym of Paul Harding, later volumes seem to have switched to his real name.

I enjoy this series, though not as much as Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series. These books have a similar feel, taking place about two centuries later: Athelstan is a Dominican friar sentenced by his order to serve as the clerk for the Coroner of London after he broke his vows of obedience.

The mysteries are fun, if straightforward, and the characters colorful. If you like historical mysteries, give these a try, starting with The Nightingale Gallery. (

agréable à lire. Mais, comme pour tout auteur, on se lasse au bout d'un moment. c'est le troisième de suite. Vais changer un peu ! (
