Mildly interesting - it's two stories, the second one set earlier than the first. I can follow the action reasonably well, though I sometimes have difficulty telling characters apart - not in their real forms, but the author tends to make them chibi when they're hurt or shocked, and those all look pretty much alike. It uses a lot of somewhat obscure (to an American, at least) words, but does define them pretty well - if you read the text inserts. The second story tells how Rorouni Kenshin comes to the dojo (though he leaves at the end of that story); the first story has him and his friends firmly established at the dojo, so there's clearly story I'm missing in between. Eh. I'd read another volume if I came across it, but I won't bother to seek it out. ( )

This series has a few ups and downs. I feel the fighting is too confusing, you cant quite get a grasp of what is happening. The story line is repetitive. It is a constant flow of one on one fights through out. However!, the characters are wonderful. The "bad guys" are fun and unique and the drawing style is fantastic. ( )
