He categorizes disagreements into three realms: head (what is true), heart (what is meaningful), and hand (what is useful). Then suggests 8 steps toward productive arguments: 1) watch anxiety sparks, 2) talk to your internal voices, 3) develop honest bias, 4) speak for yourself, 5) ask questions that invite surprising answers, 6) build arguments together, 7) cultivate neutral spaces, and 8) accept reality then participate in it. Overall, the process sounds useful and he illustrates his points with several examples including immigration, voting and whether or not ghosts are real. He also references Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility when talking about how humans distance themselves from what they see as bias which then makes it impossible to recognize that bias. ( )
