This book combined three books into one large volume, Time Of The Twins, War Of The Twins, and Test Of The Twins. It is the story of Raistlin and Caramon Majere after the War of the Lance. Raistlin must travel back in time to gain the knowledge needed to fight Takhisis, and his brother, Caramon is sent back to stop him. Raistlin seduces a cleric of Paladin to help him fight Takhisis and starts a war so that he can get access to the portal into the Abyss. Caramon must overcome his personal issues and his love for his brother to finally understand his brother and stop him from bringing Takhisis into the world. In the end, Tasslehoff Burrfoot saves the world, again.

This is a really good trilogy of books. I enjoy the DragonLance series, and especially these authors. This is one of their best in my opinion. ( )

Time Of The Twins:

Time Of The Twins is uit... na een FERME leesdip. In het begin raakte ik heel ver, alleen de laatste hoofdstukken bleken blijkbaar nogal taai.

Crysania is toch echt een kalf é, dat ze zich zo makkelijk laat verleiden door Raistlin - nuja, enigszins ook een weerspiegeling van real life, dat sommigen ook snel verleid worden tot verkeerde dingen. En dat ze Loralon niet 'vertrouwt' en niet ermee meegaat, dat ze liever in Istar blijft bij de Kingpriest en Raist. Zegt Loralon: "You do not look into the light, you stand in front of it. The shadow you see cast before you is your own. The next time you will see it clearly, Crysania, is when you are blinded by darkness . . . darkness unending. Farewell Revered Daughter.". Komt daar dan ook nog eens bij dat ze Tas niet hoort of ziet (naar het einde toe).

Wat ik wel raar vond is dat wanneer Tas dat apparaatje activeert om terug te keren, dat ding gewoon uiteenvalt. Tas geeft Raist de schuld, langs de andere kant heb ik de indruk dat Par-Salian expres een defect exemplaar meegaf. Kvond het ook wel zielig op het einde toen Raist, Crysania en Caramon weg waren en Tas alleen achterbleef. Gelukkig werd ie beschermd door de 'spreuken' van Fistandantilus in diens 'labo', toen de Cataclysm in werking trad.

Ook tof om lezen was Caramon eindelijk eens optrad tégen zn broer en niet meer zo naïef was, alles slikkend en onderdanig zijn.


War Of The Twins:

War Of The Twins... fan-tas-tisch! Meesterwerk, hoe ze het klaargespeeld hebben, I dunno, maar petje af hoor. Meeslepend, spannend, soms wel eens voorspelbaar, maar langs de andere kant ook zeer realistisch (hoe mensen met elkaar omgaan en zo).

Normaal gezien vind ik Tasslehoff nog een leuk karakter, maar hoe hij dan plots tevoorschijn komt in de tent van Caramon wanneer Raistlin/Fistandantilus een spreuk wil uitvoeren om zn dood te verhinderen (wanneer Kharas zn zwaard door Raistlin steekt)... dan denk ik van "aaah, kun jij nu niet gewoon eens nog enkele seconden wegblijven?! ".

Ik had wel wat medelijden met Tas toen Gnimsh gedood werd door Raist. Gnimsh leek me nog een leuk personage.

Naar het einde toe ook zeer meeslepend, Caramon die Raist erop wijt hen terug te zenden naar hún tijdperk, de toekomst dus en hoe Raist feilt voor de Portal.

Test Of The Twins belooft dan ook een zeer spannende afsluiting vd trilogie te worden.

ps: Crysania is een one hell of a babe.


Test Of The Twins:

Test Of The Twins nu ook beëindigd. Prachtige afsluiting van een evenzeer magistrale trilogie, hoewel het einde eigenlijk open is en ze al een voorsmaakje gaven over wat er in andere boeken kon gebeuren.

Wel knap dat Raistlin na al die tijd toch nog iets positiefs in zich heeft en Caramon zn staf geeft zodat hij en Crysania overleven en de wereld toch gered wordt.

En dan die beschrijvingen soms van hoe iets gebeurt, zoals bijv. wanner Raistlin verscheurd wordt door de Queen Of Darkness. Je kan je het bijna levendig voorstellen, hoewel het een afschuwelijk zicht moet zijn.

Wanneer Caramon en Tas dan in de toekomst werden gecatapulteerd en hun eigen en Tika's graf zagen, vond ik ook wel een droevig moment. Zoiets wil je gewoon niet meemaken, ook niet voor de fun.

Kitiara die dan tot ze stierf nog probeerde Tanis voor zich te winnen, weer zo'n fake move zoals er tegenwoordig nog zulke mensen zijn (die anderen graag bedriegen)... grrr!

J'avais tellement hâte de le recevoir. C'est un collector des romans Lancedragon écrits il y a vingt ans. De toute beauté. Évidemment, je l'ai déjà lu à plusieurs reprises depuis tout ce temps. Mais celui-ci m'est parvenu directement de France. Les compagnons de la lance et leurs aventures à travers Krynn. ( )

I read the Legends series as individual books after reading the Chronicles. I think the Chronicles are good but the Legends are better. They are darker and deal with real human issues such as jealousy, power, corruption, and family. Weis and Hickman will go on to write other stories and they are very good as well, Souleforge for example, but I like this series the most.

I'm generally no longer fond of time travel, the Star Trek series and their constant meddling with history have done me in, I think the Legends do a much better job. So while the Legends post date the Chronicles, they also predate them as well. A lot of the history you hear about in the Chronicles is made more real here. The authors seem to put fate into the equation.

If my kids like Fantasy at all I'll encourage them to look at this. Other than the plot line of a man becoming a God and discovering what the result is, I like the story around the benevolent good leader of the world bring forth the wrath of the gods. Evil does good and Good begets evil. Theologically I'm not there but one wonders if the wrath of God is right around the corner thanks to our political and religious leaders.

I'll review the individual books later as I get them put in. From a story perspective this book doesn't really have an advantage over the individual books in the series. The larger size makes for easier reading and having them all in one place is nice. My copy of this is well worn and I purchased it and read it through again. Like when I was a kid. ( )

Book 2

Raistlin is set on a path not of his own choosing. Who is he, Raistlin or Fistandalus and not even his own brother is certain. After his confrontation with Fistandalus not even Raistlin is certain who won for Fistandalus was renown for taking bodies of younger men to house his evil soul. This is magnificently written as Raistlin is forced to follow Fistandalus’ footsteps – going to a doom that will end in his own death. He is convinced he knows better though and will not let Cameron dissuade him from this task. His brother is now his champion, having regained his prodigious strength and fighting ability. It is clear though that Raistlin will betray him, if it serves his purpose. The story swaps between the past and present where Kitiara, Raistlin and Cameron’s sister is forging her own bloody career in the Dark Queen’s army, bringing the world to the precipice of war. Tas finally gets his wish as he finds himself in the Dark Queen’s realm, the abyss. Only a Kender would desire such a fate. An excellent tale, very moody. ( )
