Two stories of this first volume are stand alones and have nothing to do with the Cain story. The problem is that all the characters resemble each other so in the first of these I kept thinking I was reading about Cain when it was a completely different character. The second stand alone about the stone angel was definitely high in the creep/tragic factor. At first I didn't really want to read it but it turned out to be quite engrossing.
I will say that I prefer this manga-ka's later work in the Godchild series than in this so far. The differences in the artwork are quite startling and it is only in the last page, last panel that the characters of Riff and Cain here begin to resemble how they look in Godchild. The good side of this volume is that at least it didn't give me nightmares LOL! Overall I would suggest both this series and the Godchild series to lovers of horror manga with a twisted psychological bent. ( )
