Annie Oakley grew up very poor, her family of nine lived in a two room cabin with a dirt floor. Her father passed away while she was still young and one of her older sisters died too. Annie had to live with a couple she called "The wolves" to make things a little easier for her family financially. They were horrible to her so after a couple years she ran away and went back home to help provide for her family. She became an amazing shooter, she even started her own small bussiness where she shot animals and sold them to a local store. She met her husband at a shooting contest and they toured the country together. She even joined the Wild West show where she met buffalo Bill and Sitting Bull. This was a great detailed story of Annie Oakley's life. ( )

Annie was one of seven children who lived in Ohio with her family. The family did not have much money, and they had to work hard to farm crops in order for the family to survive. After the death of Annie’s father and sister, she began catching game in the woods to help her family survive. Annie’s family fell on such difficult times that she was sent to stay with another family. The family friends that Annie was living with treated her very poorly; one day, Annie ran away and went back home. Annie was able to hunt in the woods again, and she created a successful business for herself. People were very surprised that a woman could be so successful shooting a rifle the way Annie was. She became more and more famous and picked out the stage name “Annie Oakley.” Annie received a job working with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and got to show the country her skills as she performed tricks with her rifle at every show. I had heard of Annie Oakley before reading this book, but I did not know anything about her other than that she was a part of the wild west. Annie Oakley defied the gender stereotypes of her time to do what she enjoyed most. I believe she was someone other people could look up to. ( )

It was great to learn about Annie Oakley, who grew up poor and took up shooting as a way to help feed her family after her father died. ( )
