The dream sequence when Fly Girl and Fly Guy imagine falling in love, marrying, and raising their brood in a cast-off tin can only to realise they'd miss their human friends too much to follow through with it--ending in "let's just be friends!--is completely charming (and a bit subversive.) This series is a hit with my kids (7 and 8) and this is my favorite of the bunch. ( ![]() For the right audience, genius. For me, well, let's just say I have to make an effort to appreciate these. I do like the great big lesson about relationships, captured in a microcosm, here. I love the Fly Guy books. There are fun to read with simple yet entertaining storylines. They are perfect books for new readers. In this book, Fly Guy and his owner/friend Buzz meet a girl who also has a pet fly. This book was an interest book that I would give a child for them to learn to love to read. The main idea of this book was that sometimes it’s better to not forget your old friends when finding new friends. I was very uncertain about how I felt about this book. There were parts that I found fun and interesting but other parts that didn’t seem to really make a difference to the story. One of the parts that I found interesting was the illustrations. The pictures were very simple but affective. It was easy to see how the pictures were relating back to the plot of the book. I also enjoyed how during the beginning of chapter 3, there were barely any words but the illustrations made it easy for the reader to follow the plot of the book, to understand that the flies wanted to get married and start their own family. In addition to the illustrations I enjoyed the simplicity of the writing. There were not many words that were complex or hard for a younger child to read. I also liked how the author included words that were in “fly language” for the flies to speak to each other. Most of the fly language consisted of “Wuzzle Wuzzup” or “Wuzzy Wuzza”. It allowed the children to act out the characters a bit. Finally, the thing that I did not particularly like about this book was the plot. There was very little to the plot and it almost seemed pointless. There was a little bit of a conflict, when the flies had to decide between being with each other or being with their friends, but there was nothing to build to it. It was simply presented and there was no falling action, they simply went their own way. The plot was simple to follow but it didn’t make me interested in the rest of the book. 48 months - Not sure what the appeal is of these for young kids but O discovered this series last time we were at the library and just had to take one home with her. We will have to borrow them again when she starts reading more. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
