Mungo, by Jillian Harker, was an interesting book that I had mixed feelings about. The story is about a monkey who goes and makes fun of all the other jungle animals and runs far away from his home. Then, he realizes he's lost his mom and doesn't know where is, but when he asks the other animals for help they make fun of him and laugh at him. Eventually, they help him, but only after making him promise to be nice. The moral ,that I saw in this story was to not burn your bridges. One element of the story I enjoyed was the characters, because as a small child I remember being annoying and mean, but then asking for help. This is a very realistic situation with children, and their parents. In the end the other animals help poor Mungo, but make him promise to never been mean and bully them again. The animals are very realistic in their reaction and respond like a real person would. Also, I was interested in the writing, since the book was written in England words like Mum were used and I thought that was an interesting addition to the book. I also felt that this might be why the story was a little harsher than I would have wanted. I did not care for the plot, I felt the idea was strong, but could have been more powerful. The author went about the ending all wrong, and this I felt blurred the line between good book and great book. Overall felt mixed about whether it was good or bad.
