This book is about a boy who is look for something specific he needs to go fishing. We are taken on a journey through his tackle box, and he explains to us what each lure does. There is a glossary of them at the end of the book as well. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal! I strive to be that good of an artist as I continue my work on the side. I think this book is adorable, and I would have it in my classroom library. ( )

This is a beautiful nature book filled information about fishing. The illustrations and diction in this book are great. Each page is accompanied by what looks like an oil painting of fishing lures, various fish species, and beautiful landscapes. The pictures of fishing lures are paired with diction that explains their function and what fish are attracted to it. Once the author introduces the fish, he includes a detailed picture along side it. I enjoyed reading this book because of its captivating pictures and its information that followed each picture. In the back of the book is a super neat fishing glossary that further explains how to manipulate each fishing lure in order to catch fish. "a good day's fishing", is a great book to spark an interest in the young outdoorsman to read. ( )

(easy, picture) We follow along as a boy is digging through his tackle box searching for....what? Well, you find out as you read along. He pulls out his different lures, bait and tackle gear and with each item he pulls out the reader learns what each one is for and what fish is best to catch with it. The fish are presented in beautiful illustrations with a whole two page spread dedicated to that page's particular fish underwater. Eventually we find out that the boy is looking for his fishing hat to place on his head as he heads out into a warm sunny day for his next fishing adventure. I liked this book because it teaches the reader about fishing in an easy to understand, organized yet imaginative way. At the end of the book is a glossary of lure and fly terms. Perhaps a good interactive activity is to bring in a stacked tackle box for the kids to touch and look at with the hooks taken out of course! ( )

Summary: A boy looks inside his tackle box for the one thing he needs to ensure a good day's fishing. He goes through the spinners, lures, bobbers, swivels and other fishing equipment before he finds the most important thing: his hat! Includes a detailed “lure and fly” glossary.

• Evaluation: The author is an expert in fly-fishing and his watercolors certainly helps the reader to understand better the technicalities of fishing paraphernalia, and its relationship with fishes. The text mingles with the illustrations giving an effective sense of the act of searching. The book will capture any boy or girl interested in fishes or fishing. The glossary in the back is very detailed but maybe too technical for the younger readers. ( )
