China is intent on regaining its place on the stage of world super powers and engineers a series of attacks on the U.S. space stations and defense systems, including invasions of Somalia and Yemen. When McLanahan's girlfriend's plane is attacked, he launches his own counteroffensive because the U.S. president is too weak to do so on his own. Very farfetched. ( )

Executive Intent is the 16th book in the McLanahan series. Russia & China conspire to attack America's space based defense systems and POTUS is irrelevant, gutless and ignoramus-like...one you just like to hate...like Carter of Obama. Our hero, McLanahan is retired and still effective but does not dominate the dialogue as in previous editions. This is mostly about the White House occupant, the Veep and SECSTATE. Butk there's lots of tactical action--causing perturbations in the DC fabric. In the end, the author was too kind to the POTUS...he should have gotten a more dramatic comeuppance. ( )

Executive Intent is the 16th book in the McLanahan series.

Russia & China conspire to attack America's space based defence systems and China pushes out from its isolationist policy to attack Somalia & Yemen, the two countries which border the Gulf of Aden, a high priority shipping lane.

As per the last two books the insufferable character of President Gardner returns and bumbles and appeases his way through more conflict which as history shows simply doesn't work.

The book's okay, but then after the last two perhaps my expectations have lowered. The first half whilst entertaining is predictable and unremarkable, after the narrative gets going however the latter half is quite good. ( )

New President, Joseph Gardner, knows the way he wants to strengthen and maintain America’s dominant presence in the world. It takes an increase in aircraft carriers. This leaves the budget too tight to pursue any space weapons systems and some countries are noticing America’s vulnerabilities.
When two power hungry counties, China and Russia, join forces against the US after an incident, much quick decision making has to be done. The fundamental differences in the President and the Vice President’s beliefs are shown and tough decisions made. His female secretary of state has an agenda all her own and it may or may not be in the country’s best interest.
The standoff between the US forces and Chinese and Russian forces are tense and strategic. Space is seemingly up for grabs to the country with the most power. The President has to fight a political battle as well as making the tough calls in the battle between the US, Russia, and China.
Loaded with technology and politics…lots of cool gadgets and some good action! This book pulls you along through the story for an intense ride.

Terrrible. No real plot that couldn't be seen from the first 50 pages on. Poor build and climax ( )

Followers of Brown's novels will undoubtedly glimpse more substance behind the regular series characters here, but anyone coming to him for the first time will find a story that resembles all that prefatory material: people dwarfed by lavish descriptions of aircraft, acronym-laden action sequences and endless governmental deliberations.
