We follow Amos and his friendship with all of the animals, despite him being busy all the time. Amos becomes sick during the story and is unable to come into work, making his animal friends worried about him. The animals come up with a plan to visit Amos and make him feel comfortable, to return the favor of being a good zookeeper and friend. This book is humorous and would definitely entertain a group of young students. Also, this book could teach the important lesson of having to give kindness in order to receive kindness. ( ![]() The main idea of this book is to know that everyone comes in different shapes and sizes. Every day, Amos McGee takes his time getting to know all of his friends at the zoo. One day he gets sick, so his animal friends decide they want to go visit him. Such a cute book! 10/10 recommend Used in Storytime 2/1/18 (Picture Book 6) Award Winner: This adorable book highlights the friendship between a zookeeper named Amos McGee and the animals at the zoo. He is a kind zookeeper who is friends with all the animals and spends time with each as part of his very routine days. He plays chess with the elephant, sits quietly with the penguin, and even reads stories to the owl. One day Amos is sick and doesn't come in to work and all the animals miss him very much and go to his house to visit him. They all spend time with him and help him feel better. It is a feel good story that makes you value friendship! What initially caught my attention was the illustrations and stylistic choice of the story. I personally loved the contrast of black-and-white to yellow and green. The story itself, to me, was adorable. I had never read it, nor heard of it as a child. However, I loved that Amos personified every animal that he worked with. This then became evident anthropomorphism when the animals grew concerned for him and visited him as he did for they to keep company. It was a very cute story and I would enjoy sharing it with others. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
"Amos McGee, a friendly zookeeper, always made time to visit his good friends: the elephant, the tortoise, the penguin, the rhinoceros, and the owl. But one day--'Ah-choo!'--he woke with the sniffles and the sneezes. Though he didn't make it into the zoo that day, he did receive some unexpected guests."--Dust jacket.
