A thanksgiving holiday for the Chinese and many other asian peoples. They celebrate farmers finishing gathering their crops. A time to give thanks for a good year and celebrate with family. "A family travels to a moonlit meadow where each individual helps with preparations for a nighttime picnic. The full moon's shape symbolizes harmony and wholeness, and the family members unpack round-shaped fruit and paper lanterns. The young narrator pours round cups of tea, and everyone nibbles on soft, sweet mooncakes. As a glowing moon "peacefully watches over all of us," the family sends their secret wishes to it and relishes being together. The writing is concise and accessible, and an author's note adds further information on the holiday and its significance." -SLJ, 2010 A perfect book for early elementary students! It introduces children to a Chinese tradition -Mid-Autum Moon Festival- in where families and friends get together to celebrate the moon. I love that the purpose that the illustration in this book serve; it helps the readers have a more clear idea of what is being read. This book would be good for primary students. This book is about a family who celebrates the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. The family has a picnic and releases lanterns into the sky. They thank and celebrate the moon with their family and others. I thought this book was really cute. It is a great way to teach other children about culture and about things that others do to celebrate. I might read this to my class when talking about the moon or festivals. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
