The story is about a murdered Indian with our heros John and Vicky solving the murder. I thought that the repeated telling of the tale got pretty boring and the use of legal jargon by non legal characters was off-putting. The cultural issues illuminated were fun, though, and the mix of Indian culture with white law is a discovery. ( )

I like this series. Ned Windsong is found shot to death. HIs white girlfriend, Marcy, is the only witness and identifies two Arapaho troublemakers, but others on the reservation blame her. HIs former girlfriend, Roseanne BirdWoman, also blames Marcy, but she (Marcy) blames Roseanne as part of it. Then the two troublemakers are found shot to death. Vicky Holden is hired by Marcy's father to represent her. Vicky brings Marcy to the mission to hide out. There is a chance Ned was part of a burglary gang and Father O'Malley things there is someone else in control of the gang who might be responsible for the murders.

A solid addition to the series. Some continuing character development. A nice twist to mystery, though. ( )

I have been reading the Wind River Mystery series for some time now, and it one of my favourite contemporary mystery series. Having said that, this one was not quite as good as what I've come to expect from this series. I also did not really care for the way this book ended. Too much unfinished business and undisclosed danger. But Father John O'Malley was still wonderful and that is the main thing that keeps me coming back to this series. I love the mix of modern life and ancient Arapaho customs that these books provide. Father John finds himself in the middle of a thieving ring in this book, and people from this ring keep getting killed. He needs to find out who the ringleader of this gang could be and stop him before more lives are lost. ( )
