A collection of the comic strip Rose is Rose. This collection features the adorable kitty of the family, Peekaboo.

Rose is Rose is one of the cutest comic strips and I have loved it for a while. This collection puts Peekaboo(cutest name ever) up front and center. I picked up this book from paperbackswap.com. It was a nice little gem to grab. I wish the comic was still active but it has since retired.

The only downside is that I did not feel that these were some of the best strips with Peekaboo. I feel like I have read other good ones but this book did not have them.

If you are a fan of the comic this is fun to have if not it might be a good introduction.Even though I think there are better strips of Rose is Rose I still am happy to have this one in my collection.

"Rose Is Rose" is a warm and gentle family strip with parents Rose and Jimbo Gumbo, and son Pasquale (who appears about 7). It's a very good-hearted strip. The parents are obviously quite in love and sneak smooches when they can, and Pasquale is a bright and curious small boy who would be the apple of any parent's eye. Pat Brady does a fine juggling job in often taking the strip right up to the edge of becoming cloying, and never quite crossing over. Indeed, the strip is often spiced by Rose's occasional fantasies about being a free spirited Harley rider, or her sporadic self-imprisonments into her "dungeon of resentment".

This is a collection of the Sunday strips, and I like them better than the dailies. Pat Brady is a skilled artist and plotter of the slow build-up, and he takes deft advantage of the extra space.

Although this book maintains the sweet, charming quality of the characters created by Pat Brady, Don Wimmer's art is becoming increasingly unattractive. Since Wimmer took over the comic strip the drawing has slowly been moving toward the clownish, with ball noses and excessive exaggeration. Jimbo is starting to look like a drunk from a 1940s newspaper cartoon, and Peekaboo has lost definition, her heart-shaped nose a thing of the past.

This is still a great strip, but I hope Wimmer tightens up his drawing style in the future.

Worth owning.

"Rose is Rose" is a refreshing comic strip in a world of put-down, insult-humor. The strip focuses on Rose and Jimbo Gumbo, their son Pasquale, and the cat, Peekaboo. Rose is a loving wife and mother, though she sometimes find she needs her alter-ego, Vicki the Biker Chick, to help her with those problems requiring a fearless and highly-opinionated personality (Vicki has a habit of riding her Harley into the unknown, speaking up when Rose is shy, and cooking rattlesnake chili). Jimbo writes love notes and hides them for his wife, is his son's hero, and fights the cat for his favorite chair; he's the dad we all wish we had. Pasquale is an imaginative boy who adores school and is protected at all times by his guardian angel (who usually appears identical to Pasquale, but with wings, a halo, and wearing a heavenly robe - but can morph into a skyscraper-tall warrior with sword and shield if needed). Pasquale's daily life includes battles with the drain-monster (who yearns to munch kiddie-toes), Play-Doh modeling, and nightly travels in his dreamship. Peekaboo is the cat's meow, and is every cat you've ever known personified. There's also spoiled cousin Clem, the local neighbors, a Let-It-Be Tree, Pasquale's Echo, Peekaboo's animal friends, Jimbo's zen garbage moments, garlic breath, and Meemaw (grandma)! A guaranteed mood-enhancer.… (mer)
