I hadread the first two books of this series years ago and somehow this book got lost on my TBR when I was waiting for it to be released. I should have done a reread because I forgot a lot about the characters in the story. However, even forgetting parts of the other books, I was still beguiled by this story. It was dark but also entertaining. I found myself wanting to know more which lends credibility to this author and their writing.

E.S. Carter is an author who spans genres and tropes with a great deal of skill and imagination. I’ve been looking forward to her latest offering, which is an M/M love story. If M/M isn’t your thing, then you can feel free to move on right now. But the story is amazing, so hang in there, if you can!

Her writing manages to be both straightforward and lush, full of the small details bring her stories to life. Her characters are fully realized, and as the reader you can’t help but be drawn into caring for them. The plot is fairly straightforward, but the appeal in this case isn’t in the reader’s discovery but in watching the men, Ellis and Macsen, make the steps for the themselves.

The secondary characters are just as appealing as the main men. It’s obvious that Eli sees them as people who exist in their own right, not only as devices to support her story or main characters. They are funny, sweet, acerbic, loyal, talented and have their own lives and their own concerns.

I don’t want to give away any more than the blurbs do, but I do want to warn you that this book has a good chance of making you cry. It’s a bittersweet, cathartic cry, but you might want to plan your reading take into account some recovery time. I give this book 5 enthusiastic stars.

First - did you read Nineteen? Yes, then go ahead with my thoughts below. Oh, you didn't read Nineteen? Well, then the review isn't going to be helpful. Because Nineteen ends with a cliffhanger. I won't discuss the story content to give it away. Hurry back after you've read Nineteen.

Okay, its book two. This story is definitely not a stand alone and picks up for you right where Nineteen left off. Author Carter throws in some interesting storyline to keep you guessing where this is headed. But never fear, Emma will be happy at the end of this journey.

"I am her junkie, she is my needle and here is my vein."

I love a great romantic tale. Ms Carter does not disappoint me. I get a continuation of a great start and the perfect ending. The storyline did lag for me at times, but not so annoying that I skipped over pieces.

So, here it goes because I can't offer much more than that. Read Nineteen. Now finish with this story. It won't disappoint and you'll be glad you did. I can't wait for more from this author. 4.25 stars out of 5

"Who can ever feel unloved or lonely when there's a whole world of undiscovered journeys to take, hidden in the pages of a book or in the chords of a song?"

How true are those words? Yes for me! Emma and Jake are two of the most unlikely characters to cross paths. Jake is a bad boy rising star. Emma is just trying to find out if she's able to become the woman that she needs to be. So, here I stop. Why? Because you just need to read the story. If you follow my reviews and like what I like, trust me, this is well worth the reading time. But, this is one of those stories that you need to experience for yourself. Because...

She ends it in a BIG ol' cliffhanger.

But never fear. ES Carter has Twenty One all ready for you to pick up where you leave off here. This was a first time read for me of this author. The recommendation came from a reading group. I was definitely NOT disappointed. It hit all the right notes. Moved at an engrossing pace. I want more of Emma and Jake. So off to Twenty One.

How do you find beauty and poetry in the darkness? You venture here. If you are looking for contemporary romance, turn around and go back where you came from. If you are needing something new, and much darker, follow me.

But first, read Feyness if you haven't. Sorry - this one I standby -book one is a must read first.

"Fear is unwelcome here. I am not that boy; I’m the angel of death."

ES Carter spins a story that haunting reminds me of gothic romances from Charlotte and Emily Bronte or Ann Radcliffe. However you are teleported to modern day where the demons are far more cunning and have endless resources at their disposal.

"Dressed all in white, she appears to be an unblemished angel, while I’m the bruise on a piece of fruit, the part you cut off with the sharpest knife before you sink your teeth into the remaining flesh."

This tale takes off right where Feyness left. But now Ms Carter gives us Grim to walk us through the revenge that he never seems to satisfy. He stands alone, aware of the devil inside, that he cannot share his life. However, Calliah was the unblemished part that caught his bruises unawares. You get to learn about the difficulties these two characters endured. And became stronger - oh so much stronger for it.

If you love paranormal/dark romance, I urge you to stop reading and just one click RIGHT NOW. If you are like me, where hearts, flowers and unicorns rule the Kindle, this is an unlikely but beautiful read. When asked to describe ES Carter's darker side, I say that it is poetry - abet scary ass poetry but bewitching all the same. I am forever impressed with each offering ES Carter gifts her readers; I walked away breathless...and waiting for Luke's story. 5 out of 5 heartstoppingly beautiful stars.

This story will touch your heart with the perfection of second chances given a breath of life. Sometimes as young men and women, we miss the opportunities to seize real change and follow it. Part of growing up is making those mistakes and learning from it.

George is one who has made a mistake and doesn't let life get in the way of making up for it. What started as a bedtime story has bloomed into a perfect short story read about finding your happily ever after when the time is right.

Take a chance on George and Dylan and you will be justly rewarded. 5 out of 5 stars

What are your favorite tropes? Marriage for Hire? Enemies to Lovers? Insta-Love? How about your H/h? Need a Billionaire? A pauper in need of saving the family 'farm'? The wallflower that is forever overlooked? Now take your trope, add your characters, mix in some cheeky British humor, and maybe have the author flip all the expectations on their heads and cook it up for a serving of --

The Bachelors!

Yes, it's the story that takes our most favorite tropes and with tongue in cheek spins a delightful contemporary journey for the reader to find your other half. As the saying goes, everybody needs somebody. Each one of the main characters have found their 'perfect' somebody - whether they care to admit it or not. But it goes without saying that secondary characters can make or break a fantastic read. Ms Carter offers up some of the best with family and friends joining the frey of who gets the mark in the win column. Besides the comedic elements, you've got the perfect romance with 'fade to black' that you'll find you can recommend to the most prudish of friends - but still feel that sizzle.

Worried because 3rd person isn't your thing? Eli Carter nails the writing and intertwining of each characters story that keeps you engaged that you don't realize you've reached The End . Concerned with another 'British' book? If you can watch Notting Hill, you'll clutch your eReader to prevent it from slipping with all the giggling that will ensue. And for this reader, it ended on the perfect note. Brilliant and satisfying conclusion --- for now.

This is definitely one to show up on my eReader when I want to just have fun with the story for re-read over and over again. 5 out of 5 stars and personal favorite.

So, wait...you know I'm a huge Austen fan. Yet, not one peep. How about you read my thoughts on that aspect in my blog - My Own Bookshelves - for release day. In all seriousness, you do not need to nor be a fan of the classic to enjoy this fun and wicked ride.

Grief is a difficult. Often in romance, the reader usually is at the tail-end of the timeline. Eight does not address the topic but immersing us into one man's journey of loss. I will not spare you; it's realistically painful. You witness the collateral damage to everyone in and out of the family. But is this only what the story delivers? No, more. So much more.

ES Carter gives in Eight all the feels. We are on a journey of how one young single father comes out the other side of grief. What happens when he meets a woman who reflects the same pain he has back at him? Maybe they can find a way to a new happy. Josh and Halle are written so relatable and want to get to know them with every page turn. All my favorite LBN characters make an appearance -what is a LBN book without Mrs Fox? Amazingly, you not only get to know Josh and Halle as primary characters, but Ivy-bell steals the scenes every time she emerges. As always, Ms Carter balances her storytelling with just the right amount of humor in the right moments to allow you to catch your breath.

So break out the Kleenex readers, you are going to need them. There is no doubt based on the PM photos I'm getting from fellow readers. But in the end you will be graced with a beautiful story that makes you believe once and for all, everyone has the chance for a HEA if they see it. Although Eight can be read as a standalone, this reader HIGHLY recommends you read One, Love by Numbers #5, first to get into the backstory. However, if same sex storyline is not your 'thing', you can read this as a standalone. Definitely a top 2017 read for me. 5 stars out of 5 stars.

“I’ve been abducted by a sex-trafficking ring.”

Okay not really. But if you’ve every woken up in recovery after major surgery, it is pretty much an unnerving process wondering where you are and how you got there. Now this has nothing to do with Harry and Lilah’s story, but that quote is in the start of the prologue, that’s the funny you’ll be in for with Thirteen. ES Carter is one of my recent author finds. Starting with her debut book, Nineteen, I’ve had the opportunity to watch this exceptional writing talent grow.

“I take one last look at her soft curves, perfect tits and firm arse and close my eyes to imprint the memory on my brain.”

I mean really, who wouldn’t love a man who looks at you and think of you that way. Harry is the ultimate book boyfriend. He is kind, funny, giving- in and out of bed. If you have had the opportunity to previous Love by Numbers books, you know what a perfect best friend Harry is. If you haven’t read any of the series, that’s okay this one stands alone. However, you’ll really, really want to read the others. And Lilah, what a strong female lead. Her story (and her twin) amazing and you want to give them huge sws’ Okay that’s all I’m going to give you. Just buy the book. You need the story to unfold for yourself. Anything I tell you will spoil it. Storyline is strong and rhythmic in its flow. You’ll laugh and giggle and fall a little bit more in love with the whole gang. 5 out of 5 “why are you still reading my review and not reading the story” stars

PS: I’ve been asked to write this review in exchange to allow the author to write her next book, ONE, in peace and quiet. Now we know this is impossible for me to do, but I’ve written my review anyways. I will still post to her author wall to hurry up. #impatiently waiting for Iz’s book for awhile now. ;)

There is a time when all good things must come to an end and maybe scare the shit out of you at the same time.

Faithless' time is now.

Now, if you've read my reviews for Red Order Book 1 & 2, this is not my normal. E.S. Carter's use of language and gothic imaginary is something I couldn't resist. The story of the Hunter brothers is not for the faint of heart. And maybe how they problem solve isn't in the best interest of the other characters. Yet, the story is engaging and action packed - you are determined to see how it finishes.

I was anxious for Luke's story. Of the three, he was charming and yet had that underlying sharp edge of darkness that you knew he was the most deprived of them all. Did not disappoint. James, secondary character of book 2, becomes the soul focus of Luke's attention in the book. The reader learns more the driving force for James' needs to save the forgotten. And along comes Lily.

Enough said.

Now, I'm not going to talk readers into reading this dark romance series. Its graphic in its darkness. Unapologetic in the scenes that unfold. But, it is the brilliance of the storytelling that I find myself compelled to break out of my normal cup of tea. I finished the story and felt stressed, horrified and yet complete. If you are a fan of books 1 & 2, this finale is not to be missed. Ms. Carter ramps up the action and the heat to give us more - suspense, action and all we loved in these stories.

“You say I’ve ruined you James—” he steps away from me and my used body sags against the door in front of me. “—but one taste of you has damned me.”

First, I will allow you to let that sink in what you read above. Because truly, if a blurb checks off all my no-no rules when selecting a book, it's right there in front of your eyes.

~ It's a story of someone under the age of 25. YA and me are a no.
~ It's a story that is going to have some pretty heavy angst. No hearts and rainbow unicorns, and I'm out.

But what if I get off the high horse of self imposed pickiness and actually gave the book a chance? Seriously, didn't I JUST complain about insta-love haters in a blog post? Now, in full disclosure, I did beta read the story, and Ms. Carter gave me the opportunity to say no. Yet, I decided to take a chance on this awkward old soul who is the center of probably the most wonderful story that will grace your heart and mind. My earlier initial thoughts were radically changed:

~ It's a story of a girl trying to understand her world after it all comes apart. How it molds and shapes her as the reader experiences her life in coming of age.
~ It's a story that will evoke a lot of feelings as you read: anger, shock, sympathy, loss, understanding and most of all great love.

Many have asked and I have answered firmly: Yes, there is a HEA. I know as a reader, Ms. Carter put me through hell - read that as yes she ACTUALLY made me cry - but there is a happily ever after in the end. I would never steer my fellow book friends into a non-HEA.

But did you catch that? She made me cry. The person who watched Titanic and asked when the people drown. That piece of information should make you rethink any decision not to read this story. If someone's words can touch me so profoundly to move me to tears, it is well worth your time.

ES Carter creates a world where your mind travels there. The characters play out their lives with vivid imagery. Her words are beautiful and brilliant. As a reader, you want to reach out to Fflur, counsel her in each misstep, hold her when she breaks, and praise her when she grows resilient.

I think I'm done. Because honestly, there is nothing else that I can find that will tell you why you should read this story. It is something to be experienced, treasured, and most of all - shared with all your book friends. In short...Buy The Book.

Occasionally a question of "what is your favorite recommendation for new M/M readers?" is made and my go-to is Crossroads by Riley Hart. Now, there is a battle because One now shares space. When a book is brilliant and so well written that you end up re-reading it while searching for quotes for your review, you realize that such a book has gripped your heart and soul. This novel is it.

It's more than a love story. It's a story of loss and hope, anger and forgiveness, condemnation and redemption. Ms Carter weaves a beautiful romance that gives the reader a full immersive experience of every emotion. There are points which you yell and cry in both happiness and sadness. And it's just not one character but both main characters that pull you through that journey.

I see beauty. They see distrust. Labels are for fucking jars, not people.

I could give you detail to the plot, but why waste your time with that. Instead I'll tell you to just READ this book. Whether it's your first same-sex romance or a beloved genre, you can read this novel as a standalone from the rest of the series. However, once you find the love of ES Carter's words, I dare you not to go back and read the rest. Some readers may pause as this is written in British English but don't allow that to dissuade you. If you can read Katy Regnery's Rousseaus series with intermingling of French or Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series with southern slang, you can put up with the original version of my native tongue.

I truly hope you'll give this story your time. You won't be disappointment. I've invested it five times over already. I'm sure I'll be re-reading it soon. 5 out of 5 stars

"The trouble is when I gave myself to her, I gave her my entire being."

If you've read the previous Love by Numbers, you've been introduced to Liam. Do you need to read the others prior? Nope - this book can definitely stand alone. However I dare you to resist reading the others after you've read Liam's story. Liam has a huge heart. He's always looking out for others; giving of himself to help find their happiness. But, Liam also hides his broken heart, sometimes painfully not apparent, other times it's on his sleeve.

Although this is Cari and Liam's story, it's so much more. It's about what family means to you and their impact to our lives. I really can't tell you what I absolutely loved about the story without giving away spoilers. So, trust me when I say - if you love a HEA that makes you smiley, squishing, soft inside, you'll definitely enjoy this novel. If you have read Nineteen and Twenty-One, you'll be happy to know that you get some very favorite and often funny people return to tickle your funny bone at the right time. I mean you get perfect lines that only people with oversharing families totally get like:

"You know it's time to retreat to the safety of your room when you've made your mother roar."

Not explaining that one. Just go over, one-click this book and enjoy the heck out of this story. Thank you ES Carter for pulling another stellar story together. Now, give me Isaac's story and we'll let you out of the bush. ;) 5 out of 5 heartwarming stars.

I fell in love with Flynn and Iz in One. Their love story was a bit unexpected and wonderful all at the same time. So where is the author going to continue to take us in their journey? It's heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time.

Now the couple is tested for other reasons. As the reader we see their bonds of family tighten as their circle is tested in ways no one expected. Add in the unexpected pressures of celebrity, not everything seems as it is. But our heroes Flynn and Iz come out the better of it.

Once again ES Carter weaves her magic. Her storytelling is engaging - something that you can't put down and savor the words as your eyes cross the page. Two is a perfect continuation of not only Flynn and Iz about the entire Fox clan. I'm anxiously awaiting what is in store for the next story.

Poignant and heartbreaking. This is a story about death and grieving. How does one move one itch life when you are missing the person that was your air, your purpose, your heart. There are no definite answers except time. Until you meet another person that steals your words and you are no longer vacillating between anger and hatred and instead find joy and acceptance. This book was done with intricate moments to weave a spell and take the reader on a journey of the highest of highs, to the lowest of lows and again the happiest of highs.

Sweet lord. I loved this book. It is a duet but can be read as a standalone. I'm hoping that there is more to it than just two books because I need to know more about Luke and James.

The subject matter is dark but the book itself and the characters are amazing.

Definitely recommend this book and author.

Why had I never heard of this book before?!?!? This book blew my mind. The writing was PHENOMENAL. It was beautiful and painted an image that was beauty amidst darkness. It was light juxtaposed with darkness. It was sublime. I truly am in awe of the beauty of how this author used her words much like an artist uses paint. This story is dark but not in the typical way. Yes, there are disturbing matters. Yes, there is gore. However it doesn't detract from the story.

I loved that Faye had special abilities and could see auras and the past. I loved that Cole and Luke were fighting for the innocent. Gah, I just fricking loved this book.

I cannot wait for the next book.

It was a lovely, heart-wrenching book. I am glad I received it in a Giveaway. So happy to read it. It just touched my heart. The emotions built up in this book kept me so drowned in it that I didn't want it to finish.
Amazing book. Nice story and appreciative writing.
Would love to read the next book in the series.
