This story takes place in an art class, where one specific student does not draw or smile or talk. She is always "surrounded by a big dark cloud". One of her classmates helps her through her sadness and gets her to love drawing. This book shows the simplicity of helping others although you may not know what is going on in their heads. It will inspire children to be a friend to those who are struggling or having trouble with something. Every child should be exposed to this kind of story because it is a very big deal.… (mer)

Wonderful children's story that helps children find creative ways to face their fears. Posy's family moves to a new house with all that entails - new house, neighborhood, school, and so on. Initially scared and overwhelmed, she finds a red boat in the back yard where her and her dog use their imagination for adventures. From these adventures, she learns strategies to face the unknowns she is frightened of. My kids like it a lot.

I could relate very closely to this story because as I child I moved around a bunch and I was always at a new school each year. In this story the little girl, Posy, had just moved into a new house with new neighbors and is going to attend a new school. Posy along with her dog George discover a red boat in the backyard and during the night they travel to different lands to meet new friends that are big and small, to play hide and seek on the dark moon and explore places with lots of different animals. Each one of these adventures helps Posy to conquer her fears of talking to the new neighbors, sleeping in her large dark room and making a ton of new friends in her new school. Each time she recalls her dog George giving her a nudge to have the confidence to say hello or to not be afraid.

No matter who, dog or person, it is alright to count on someone. In this case Posy and George were best friends, and George was always there for Posy to push her in the right direction. I was lucky enough growing up to have my big sister who went on all my adventures with me and always ready to brave the new worlds before me or at least assure me that I would be fine in doing so. The last adventure Posy went on was when she walked to her new school all by herself and in the second she was afraid of making new friends she remembered how George would 'woof' and give her a slight nudge, almost saying 'everything is going to be alright."

This is a great book about a little girl name Posy, who along with her dog George, sits in a red boat, and imagine they are flying all over the world making friends with animals and aliens. Children would love this book because talks about being a new person in a new neighborhood and school. It shows how you can be brave and make new friends. I would use this book to encourage children to be creative.
