Daughters for a Time av Jennifer Handford
This book was surprisingly good. Not generally the type of literature I seek, but there was a depth to the story that drew me in. For anyone who has found that family is complicated or that the feelings they have for children sometimes supercede blood ties, this book will ring bells.
Is it ever the best thing to keep a secret?
Are we all addicted to something that we know we should let go of, but somehow cannot?
Can you ever tell a lie that isn't found out? And when it is, is it worse that you lied or that you continued to lie over time?
Difficult questions that are addressed by Handford in a thoughtful and interesting way.
I could walk in the shoes of each of her characters...which I find superior to relating to only one of them.

Mary has a good life. She's married to a man that she loves, has 4 wonderful children and is close to her family. But Mary has a secret she's been keeping for 10 long years and it's about to come out.
Honestly, it was pretty obvious what the secret was early on in the story and by the time Mary confessed I was ready to pull my hair out. The rest of the book explores faith, marriage and the thoughts of rebuilding when everything you know is based on a lie. It was an okay book but very slow and I think more of a character study which is not my favorite genre.… (mer)
