Ezzat el Kamhawi

I was assigned to read this book for one of my Middle East Studies courses (mainly for its commentary on Egyptian history), but in retrospect, I found it interesting as a local's appraisal of history, especially in respect to other Middle East fiction I have read (see reviewed books in my library if interested - most were from this Professor's courses). In particular, I found the "historiographical ennui" of it (a mouthful of a term which means practically nothing) particularly notable, considering it being a motif throughout similar fiction.

el Kamhawi's writing style was accessible, and for the most part, the content was interesting. As a standalone read, it was interesting and thought-provoking.… (mer)
