From the Cow to the Typewriter: The (true) history… av Alessio Leonardi
Affably daffy history of the development from pictograms into type in the West, with some brief asides to cover Egyptian hieroglyphs and Chinese characters. Definitely written from a typographers' point of view, and equally definitely not intended to be taken (completely) seriously, although the history, while not excessively precise, is basically sound. A fun, easy read.
