A wonderful huge book full of photos from Erwin Olaf's 1984-2012 work.
"Chess men" is het eerste boek van Erwin Olaf. Hierin geeft hij zijn interpretatie van het schaakspel. De foto's zijn genomen in zwart-wit en van naakte mensen, veelal dwergen, op de vreemdste manieren uitgedost. Het is apart, maar niet helemaal mijn smaak.
What is going on in the mind of this girl? What has happened in this room, before the shoot was taken?
With these words Nanni gave me this book some time ago. And in this way, he has forced me doing something I am not really good at: analyzing visual stuff. Composition, color range, position of objects and bodies, details, eyes, make-up, clothes, furniture. What are those images saying to me? What am I feeling, while watching them?
I could not answer Nanni's questions: whatever happened in that room, it must have been terrible.… (mer)
