Miroslav Šašek (1916–1980)

I have mixed feelings about this book. It is a more rare title and people are searching for it, there are two copies in our public library system but again, they are reference and you cannot check them out.

So I’ll keep this on my shelves in circulation. Is it a nice book with charming illustrations or propaganda with charming illustrations?

Glad to have found this children's book having already seen the author's other books This is Edinburgh/London/Greece, etc. Lovely illustrated addition to my astronomy books.

I didn't like this one as much as Sasek's books about Paris and Venice. I found the text a bit dry, it seemed to jump around a bit more than the others did. The original version was written in 1959, but this updated version added a number of changes that have occurred since then.

Another wonderful travel book by M Sasek, with his usual mix of history, practical information, sights, and whimsy. Canals, no cars allowed, flooding, pigeons, glass blowing -- it's all here for kids. Originally published in 1961, and updated in 2005.
