I'm interested in Vidocq's memoirs, just like Pinkerton's, but hadn't really checked to see if they were still available. And in English, since my French wouldn't be up to the original.

Looks like there are copies in libraries in the state which I may be able to get through interlibrary loan, and it looks like there's a fairly new trade paperback version for sale, too. I have to go cold turkey on book purchases for the near future (car problems yesterday, and happy christmas to us all), but maybe eventually.

Enjoy the season, Renee
Sure, thanks, I'd be curious what you think of it in general. Are you aware (can't easily run a search right now) that Louis Bayard's _Black Tower_ has Vidocq as a character? I think I heard he was also the inspiration for two of Victor Hugo's characters.
As far as adding someone to "interesting libraries" goes -- it's one way to find my way back to be able to "raid" someone's library. :-)

We seem to have an interest in some of the same time periods. Currently coveting your book about Vidocq. At some point will rummage through your library a bit more....
