Bad Bears and a Bunny is about two polar bears named Irving and Muktuk. The two polar bears were brought to a zoo in New Jersey, because in the north they were being bad and were always caught stealing the muffins. One day came at the zoo that the two polar bears saw a bunny, they decided to tease him and fun of the bunny, until the bunny kicked irving in the ankle and bit muktuk on the toe. This put fear of the bunny into the two bears. Roy who was the third polar bear at the zoo, invited the two polar bears to a party where they were planning to act bad and steal muffins, until the bunny showed up and they decided to not be noticeable so he wouldnt come near them. At the end of the story they had realized that at the party they were good the entire time and didnt noticed and realized that it is not hard to behave. ( )

I love Daniel Pinkwater's books, and the Irving and Muktuk series is great to read aloud with kids. I laughed out loud at Irving an Muktuk's sneakiness and puffed-up boastfulness, and their instant comeuppance from the silent but swift bunny. The bunny is an unexpected rules-enforcer for his tininess and seeing the big bears in terror of him is a great joke.

I feel like there is a message lurking under here somewhere about being careful about messing with the quiet kid because they might whip out some ka-razy on you, as happened with Kevin Shapiro in Mr. Pinkwater's wonderful "Young Adult Novel." However D. Manus Pinkwater is also a master of misdirection and endings that land with a thump, so maybe it must simply be ascribed to surreal wackiness. If you enjoy this picture book, I recommend getting you hands on every single other thing Mr. Pinkwater has written. Other fun read-alouds of his include "Spaceburger," "Tooth-Gnasher Superflash," and "The Frankenbagel Monster." ( )

A simpler story than the other Bad Bears and Larry stories I've read so far - not as many winks & nudges. Well, the sly expressions of our heroes were cute. And the fact that Larry's favorite performer was shown on Roy's television was a neat touch. But this one just wasn't as captivating to me. It might, on the other hand, be more accessible to small children as it is more straightforward. ( )

Irving and Muktuk, two bad bears with a weakness for blueberry muffins, return for their third hilarious adventure in Bad Bears and a Bunny. Lovable, clueless, and wholly untrustworthy, they make the mistake of taunting a little white bunny, only to learn that bunnies can be VERY dangerous...

This third foray into the wonderful world of the two Bad Bears features the Pinkwaters' usual blend of off-beat humor and droll illustrations. The fierce little bunny is just one of many intimidating rabbits to be found in the series (Officer Bunny in Irving and Muktuk, Police Captain Hare in Bad Bear Detectives), and the role-reversal makes for a deliriously amusing tale. Highly recommended, but be warned: once you begin reading about Irving and Muktuk, you won't want to stop. ( )

Not as good as the original but still funnier that most anything else in print. ( )
