It all started with a runaway working woman, feathers and a bunch of orphans.
We start out following a young salon woman (19) forced to service men. She is waiting for a moment to run and when the moment comes, she runs. She runs and finds a group of unwanted orphans which she drags along with her. She was an orphan and can't leave them to the horrible fate awaiting them. She dresses herself as a child, and claims to be 13. She tells a wounded Texas Ranger they need help. Being a Ranger, he can't leave them, he helps get them to a town, where he plans to unload them with some nice people. Things happen, he cares too much to just drop them anywhere. His injuries, her lies, the children all nibble at the edges of his stand alone ways.
I wanted to like this, I tried hard. It had moments, some very funny scenes. it also had some cheesy lines, references to modern inventions that were ridiculous, a totally unbelievable story, undeveloped characters and a romance that was so predictable I was sorry I finished the book. I gave it 2.5 stars for the funny moments. I will not read this author's work again ( )

“Travis” by Georgian Gentry is one of a series of books called “The Texans”. It is the story of a Texas Ranger who is injured in a gunfight and is not able to shoot with precision any more. Violet is a dance hall girl who is trying to get out of this life, find a husband and have a family. A group of four orphans from an orphan train is stranded in their town and look to Violet to help them. She decides to pretend to be much younger and joins the orphans to find a new home. They happen upon Travis and sort of attach themselves to him. After a time, Travis looks upon these five as his kids. Of course, Violet takes on the role of “mother” to the lot of them. Travis is drawn to her, but thinks that she is only thirteen and unavailable to him. The story revolves around this rag-tag bunch finding themselves as a family and living happily. Of course, there is the brothel owner who is trying to find Violet because she ran away from him. The ending is both a surprise and satisfying. You will enjoy this book.

I received a free print copy of this book for my honest review from the publisher. The opinions expressed here are my own.

TRAVIS: THE TEXANS by Georgina Gentry is an exciting Western Historical Romance set in 1889 Red Rock,Kansas. Book $3 in "The Texans",but can be read as a stand alone. Poor Travis Prescott,Texas Ranger, finds more in Kansas than a killer. While on the trail of an outlaw and killer,Travis is wounded, he picks up a few orphans and a pretty young girl, whom he thinks is young anyway. Violet LaFarge, which is really a saloon girl on the run from a brute, and trying to start a new life for herself. But she does look like a twelve year old. Along the way Travis and Violet finds intrigue, danger, romance, and love. He and his passel of tag alongs, find a new life,until.....trouble comes to Red Rock,Kansas. Fast paced and filled with adventure, secrets and trouble. For a great read, with a bit of humor and lots of love pick up "Travis: The Texans" you will not regret your choice. Ms. Gentry is a wonderful storyteller. Received for an honest review from the publisher.
