It's a bit heavy handed in terms of shock value but overall a good read with some of the best comic art I've ever seen. ( ) You think you know the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition? Think again! This comic takes what we know about Lewis and Clark and turns it upside down in one hell of a ride. Apparently they were sent by President Jefferson to not only discover the new land America had purchased from the French, but they were also to examine some unnatural beings in a top secret mission. At first I had no idea hat this comic book was about. I honestly thought it was just another zombie comic. Then I read somewhere it was about Lewis and Clark and that's when I knew I had to read this book. I did a report on William clack in school and got hooked on the history of the expedition. Been waiting for something like this to happen in the media for awhile now, something fictional with the event. Seeing they added mythology and horror with the mix of history was pretty darn cool. It was almost like watching an episode of American Horror Story. The fact that they added people that actually existed was cool too. Was very happy to see Charles Floyd in the comic book (I might be related to him according to my dad's family). Hoping Alexander Willard appears in the comic soon because I'm related to him on my mom's side (my mom does genealogy and more reasons to like the expedition). I happened to like the writing. Chris Dingess made if feel like the time with the dialogue and the atmosphere, even though horror was added to the mix. I heard he wrote episodes for the US Beaning Human, something I got hooked on and watched. I wonder if he wrote the ones based in the Revolutionary War? Because I found myself reading Aidan and Bishop several times. The reason I gave this a four star review is because of the art. Matthew Roberts does a great job with nature. That's one of the main focus of the comic book. However, I'm not that big of a fan of how he drew the people. Sometimes they seemed off to me. It not bad art, but just not my cup of tea. If you like Lewis and Clark then I suggest getting this comic book if you don't mind all the extra horror elements added to the event. It's a fun rid and interested to see where this goes. This volume tells the real story about Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clarks mission into the west. President Thomas Jefferson has sent them out not just to explore, they are also going to catalog exotic life and get rid of all the monsters that are standing in the way for the expansion of the United States. I thought that I was just going to read perhaps 50 pages of the volume then sleep and continue the next day. Instead, I read through all six issues, then I could sleep. It was just so riveting to read that I couldn't stop. This is a history lesson, with a twist to it and what a wonderful twist. The Wild West is truly wild. Also, the banter between Lewis and Clark were marvelous. I eagerly await the next volume to read more about their adventure. In 1804, Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark set out from St. Louis, Missouri with the intent of blazing a trail to the western coast of North America -- a trip that would set the foundation for the future of the United States of America. But what the history books don't tell you is the true purpose of Lewis and Clark's journey to the west... In this imaginative retelling of their famous trek, Lewis and Clark embark on a secret mission under direct orders from President Thomas Jefferson. They are going to do more than explore the wild frontier: they're going to catalog exotic life and eliminate the literal monsters that stand in the way of the safe and rapid expansion of the United States.
