George Washington had his own secret agents, hired pirates to fight the British, and helped Congress smuggle weapons, but you won't learn that in your history books! Learn the true stories of the American Revolution and how spies used musket balls, books, and laundry to send messages. Discover the female Paul Revere, solve a spy puzzle, and make your own disappearing ink. It's all part of the true stories from the Top Secret Files of History. This was a very interesting read. It was great to learn so many new things I had never known about a subject I've taken many courses over! ( )

This was another excellent book by Stephanie Bearce. I found the book consistent with the format, style and excitement of her Top Secret Files of WWII which I have read also. The book again is aimed primarily at elementary and junior high school age history buffs but older students and foggies like me will benefit as well. I enjoyed the section on Artillerymen and how various types of shells were put together. As a stamp collector the biography Stephanie presented on Peter Francisco was of much interest. He was featured on a 1975 Commemorative Stamp but I knew nothing about him. The fact that he was an orphan dropped off in Virginia was fascinating. He became known as the Virginia Giant not only for his size but also for his fierce patriotism. The Turtle Submarine was another interesting story. I did not know there had ever been the successful "sailing" of a submarine before the Civil War. The fact that Nathan Hale's body was never recovered after his execution was another gem I did not know about. Its a great little book and a lot of research and care has gone into its preparation. I would recommend it to all readers of history. ( )

Interesting facts abound in this volume of The Top Secret Files. Did you know Spy Daring Diccey married after the war and had 22 children?Or that Paul Revere was a dentist? How about that George Washington planned to use an underwater vessel,TURTLE, to attack the enemy? ( )

I recieved this book through the early reviewers. While wrote for the younger reader I
found it very interesting. I even learned a few new things! I would thoroughly recommend this book. I think homeschoolers would also like this book as a supplement to their history lesson. ( )

Nice little (short) book for the younger to teen reader. I mistakenly selected it for my review, but was please to see how well written and interesting the subject matter has been adapted.
If this book doesn't make history of the early United States come alive for the average bored teenager, I don't know what will. It should get them motivated to read more and fuller biographies and stories about the lives and deeds of the American Revolution.
Apparently this is a series of books, and if they are all as well written, then they should be required reading at the appropriate age levels in schools in this country.
Lots of interesting facts, and exercises are in this book.
