It's a real testament to Non Pratt's writing that by the end of this very short book the reader cares so deeply about the characters involved. It's also a deeply affecting reflection of how much we grow up during our teenage years. Alex, Ben, Dean and Zara have come together after years apart to open the box they filled with their memories when they were 13. Now 18 they are all on the cusp of adulthood apart from Millie who, in the ensuing years, lost her fight with cancer. This book was intended for reluctant readers and it works. It's beautifully presented, easy to read and has enough young adult content to appeal to older teens. I loved it and the students I have recommended it to have loved it as well. Mission accomplished. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

Four friends meet up at their old school to open the memory box they stowed there years ago - with five letters inside for four of them, because their friend Millie has died. When they open the box to find a note from Millie, they discover that she has left them special instructions - permission to open her letter only if they all read aloud letters they wrote to their older selves, revealing their deepest secrets. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer, even though it was already great the way it was. The characters were really well-developed, especially for such a short story. I would love to read all their individual stories because I cared so much about every single one of them! (Except Ash, obvs. But he barely counts.) ( )
