Oooh, goodness, how does Mrs. Warren do it?

I liked this better than the first book in the series but it still didn't quite live up to the standards of later books in the series. In fact, if you read these first two books, you'd think PEAK did nothing but rescue teens lost in the park and deal with bears.

Unfortunately, all the potential couples in this series seem to have the same issues with romance. For various reasons, they don't want to admit what they feel. So instead of talking to one another to find out if there's any interest in seeing where the relationship will go, they either try to pretend they're only friends, or push the other person away, or any number of other actions that provide obstacles to romance. Unfortunately, after a while, it gets overly repetitive and boring.

Sam thinks he wants Sierra (and keeps trying to figure out ways to get her to respond to his kisses etc.) Sierra is in love with Ian so I haven't figured out why she'd agree to date Sam--but I guess she has figured out that she doesn't love Sam, she just hasn't figured out how to tell him that. Instead, she tries to set him up with Willow because she knows Willow loves him--without bothering to tell Willow whom she should know will be loyal to her. Theirs is the big romance in this book though Pete/Jess are touched on as are Ian/Sierra.

I guess since Sam doesn't show up as much in the later books, it hadn't dawned on me that he and Pete are brothers. I also hadn't realized that they'd had such a rift between them in the later novels in the series that I've read. ( )

Willow is a pretty unconventional person but she's very good with the youth group kids at church and would like the job of Youth Leader. But because of an incident that happened, they are not considering her for the job. However, she wants to take the kids on one last trek. The parents agree, only if Deputy Sam Brooks goes along. Willows been in love with Sam Brooks for a very long time but Sam has his sights set on Willow's sister, Sierra. When the unexpected happens they all must work together if they hope to survive. Sam begins to see Willow as something more than Sierra's crazy little sister. Can a life and death situation as well as a forbidden kiss change the course of the future?

This was a great addition to the Montana Rescue series and you'll find a lot happening in Mercy Falls. Though the focus is on Sam and Willow, you also have the secondary story of Pete (Sam's brother) and Jess going on as well. I had no issue keeping up with everything that was going on but I did feel that some parts were just a little too drawn out. That said, there were some tense moments which certainly kept me furiously flipping pages. Ian and Sierra are also in this story as Ian continues to look for his niece and it seems like that might carry through to the next installment as well. I really enjoyed watching the growth of each person in the story both personally and spiritually. No matter where you came from or where you are now, God is right there with you. That is a great encouragement! This is the second book in the series and I would recommend reading the first book before reading this one so you understand the background. I am really looking forward to "A Matter of Trust" as we continue the adventure!

Some favorite moments:
"Jess," he said quietly. "I don't know what you're not telling me. But I do know this. Jesus is Lord. Full stop. That means he knows the past, the future, and the now. And he wants you to live in the truth, trusting him to fix it.

See, when we're stuck in our everyday troubles, we can get focused on them, and that's all we see. We don't see God at work in our lives, just the darkness around us. But if you turn it around, look up, start finding a way to thank God, even praise him, you'll discover a different view." "A different view can also show you the truth of your situation. And the path out. Just remember, God has this view all the time. No detail of your life is unseen by him. He is your guide and your protector through life's journey. The great part is that he says 'don't worry'. He'll take care of us. All we have to do is be still and know that he's God."

He glanced again at Willow. Maybe teenagers weren't the only ones in need of curbing their impulses. Because his current impulse had to do with Willow, and the fact that he couldn't get his mind-or gaze-off her.

Title: Rescue Me (Montana Rescue #2)
Author: Susan May Warren
Pages: 336
Year: 2017
Publisher: Revell
My rating 5+ out of 5 stars.
FYI the third book in the series titled, A Matter of Trust is slated to be published July of 2017!
Rescue Me is the sequel to Wild Montana Skies where we meet a slew of characters from all sorts of life experiences, education and dreams. What touched me most about the title and book was the author’s note about her life during the writing of the novel, which I am sure will touch the heart of many people as we tend to forget that authors are people too.
In the story, we get to meet Willow who is a very caring, loving young woman who also wears her heart on her sleeve. Deputy Sam Brooks though is the polar opposite of Willow in that he doesn’t allow himself to try new experiences. In fact, he has built a wall around his heart, thinking it will keep him from experiencing pain again. However, he is also missing out on experiencing love, mercy, compassion and a deeper walk with God.
Willow volunteers to work with the youth group at her church and sometimes her spur of the moment decisions get her into deep trouble or hard places. Her sister, Sierra Rose, is the only family Willow feels who loves her for who she is and will not leave Willow no matter what happens. On what was to be a day hike with the youth group where Sam also goes along to keep them safe and help with the youth suddenly turns into trying to stay alive in a remote part of the forest. Now PEAK is involved to help locate the group, but the weather isn’t cooperating and Sam might not make it out alive!
Susan May Warren is a gifted author who tells compelling tales in a setting fraught with danger, adventure, family and faith. I enjoy books that pull me in and make the people real as they make bad choices or wrestle out issues they may have with God due to a life experience. Each book set in Montana is so well described it makes me want to go and see the mountains and forests, but not the bears in this book!
If you have never read any of Susan’s novels you are in for a real treat! I do find it helpful to read her series in order as each story builds upon the previous book. So, before book three comes out, catch up and like me look forward to the next novel with expectation for more adventures in Montana! ( )

Rescue Me is the second book of the Montana series. I have read many suspense romance mystery stories and usually find myself skimming and skipping chapters because it just seems to drag. Susan May Warren’s Rescue Me was the complete opposite. I couldn’t put it down. Every page had enough descriptions so you can see the locations and what the characters look like and are feeling, but not too much where it just gets boring to read. Rescue Me has a lot going on. It contains relationships and spiritual struggles. It’s all about forgiveness and taking chances. Love and faith can be a powerful thing, but also scary in the same breath. This book isn’t too preachy unlike a lot of faith type fictions. This book doesn’t just contain one romance couple, it contains two. The main romance is between Willow and Sam. The second relationship is Sam’s brother, Pete, and his teammate, Jess. The main thing I took from this book is life will always throw challenges at you, but you should never give up. I look forward to reading more of Susan May Warren’s books. I promise you will have a hard time putting the book down. http://stephsceliacdisease.blogspot.com/ ( )
