I think this is a really cute and sweet book. I’m not the biggest fan of poetry but I enjoyed this. All the poems are short and sweet. I feel like they all capture the feeling of Valentine’s Day. The poems don’t really have all the fancy tools like similes and other forms of literary language but the poems aren’t just cut and dry either so I think this is good for younger audiences. This book could easily be apart of a lesson plan by reading a poem a day. I also enjoyed that each poem had its own picture. ( )

I enjoyed how the book had different poems by different people. I just think the book was way too simple, and the poems could’ve been a little better. I understand that it’s for young children, but I feel like even young children could understand more depth then what the pomes in this book had. I still enjoyed reading the poems, but I wish they would have been slightly longer poems and included more detail. I thought the illustrations were fantastic and really made the pomes better. The illustrations were really detailed and they really captivated what the poems were trying to say. ( )

This collection on poetry was sweet, for anyone. There's a valentine for everyone, whether you're a dog, or a mother, or the school crossing guard. These kids are making home-made love cards for everyone they know, because everyone is loved. There are lots of rhyming and even one acrostic poem. ( )

"Valentine Hearts" is a book written in poetic fashion about the holiday Valentine's Day. The book is written with twelve different poems with twelve different poets each one different from the last. My favorite poem is "Valentine Match up" , because the author compares different things in the world and how well they go together to her and her sweet heart. Heidi Bee Roemer writes " Like pea and pod or bird and feather, certain words go well together. There's hand and glove, and sock with shoe, but best of all is me with you"(17). The author really uses subjects in the world that would be useless without each other to compare to her and her sweet heart. The book is mostly written with a positive vibe about Valentine's day, but one poem does stick out with a negative vibe named "Red". The author, Maria Fleming, writes about how Valentine's day is all red, all around her, but she is not red. She is blue, because she does not have a valentine. The book is great for all ages and can really help new readers learn to love books and poetry. ( )

This book is filled with 12 poems on the subject of Valentine’s Day. One poem, called “Valentine,” is an acrostic using the letters H, E, A, R, and T. Each poem is written by a different author. One of the poets repeats the phrase “I’m writing a love note for Leo” throughout the poem to show emphasis. The illustrations in this book are colorful and cute and help to add to the poems. The poems are written in a way that is easy for kids to understand and read. ( )
