You know those books you've been waiting for since you first read the first book in the series?

Yeah, this is one such for me. And, I loved it. But, I didn't.

See, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew that there would be a depth of story behind Ham and Signe, I did not expect it to be all of what it was though.

After the seven books that led up to "The Price of Valor" I am not sure if it was just that there were so many things happening or if the ending really was all too sudden tying things up at a crazily fast pace.

While I do enjoy Susan May Warren's books, I have loved her past books, however, there were things in "The Price of Valor" that pulls it down to three stars. The ending wrapped up too quickly, after most of the book being filled with several shock factors. Signe was taken prisoner which we knew in the other books, what we did not know is that she was raped by the man who took her prisoner, had her and Ham's daughter, and Signe was forced to marry the rapist, or be killed because of his sick beliefs who thought her daughter was his, she was raped many more times and had the bad guy's son. The bad guy sent her son away and she ended up having to rescue him in the last chapters of the book. Technically, Signe was married to two men at once but she wasn't really married to the bad guy and it's just plain confusing! It also came out that Jenny from book one, "The Way of the Brave" had an abortion.

There were some other shock factors that I won't go into since they are not as bad as those under the spoiler, though there are warnings in the spoiler area.

I loved how Ham would not give up on his wife, and forgave her. Pointing her toward God even when he didn't really trust her at moments. The redemptive message in "The Price of Valor" was sweet, and I really enjoyed seeing them heal from their past hurts and abusive childhoods. Seeing Ham as father was so sweet, he went from the strong warrior to the softest guy in a matter of a word.

I would have loved to see Ham with his sister some more because that was wonderful! And, I now really want a book about Pastor Dan, because that guy was so awesome in his preaching/not preaching to Ham. He needed more than one scene!

Due to the content mentioned in the spoilers, I can't say this is a book for anyone under 18 unless they are very mature.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher/review company. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Disclaimer: Susan May Warren is my sister-in-law. She did not request that I review this book. All opinions are my own.

I expected that I would be giving this book two or three stars when I was a quarter of the way through. I was frustrated with the characters and was praying that it would get better. Thankfully, I had a reason to root for Ham and Signe by the end, and I got the resolution that I wanted to a long-running plotline.

Susan May Warren delivers a show stopper once again! The Price of Valor is book 3 in the Global Search and Rescue series. The main character, Hamilton, has appeared in many other books as a secondary character. Readers will finally get the details of Ham's history with his wife, Signe and his daughter. With many heart stopping moments, a natural disaster and the spy details, you will not be able to stop turning pages. I highly recommend reading the previous two books and then finishing with The Price of Valor. ( )

"Besides, forgiveness doesn't really belong to me. It's the currency of heaven, and my job is to dispense it here on earth."

Oh, such a delicious ending to a great action-packed trilogy! There is a lot of forgiveness and grace as we delve into Ham and Signe's love story, from the young first love to a more mature and understanding love when given their second chance. I loved how flashbacks and memories merged seamlessly into the present day timeline and how these tidbits allowed us to know Ham and Signe with all their layers, past hurts, and present hopes. Ham became multi-dimensional and I enjoyed seeing many facets of his character and not just the spiritually mature and encouraging side or the get-it-done practical side. Orion and Jenny have significant voices in this book and Pete Brooks from Montana Rescue series has a fun cameo appearance here.
Adventure, action, and suspense center around a natural disaster and its aftermath, as well as international espionage, betrayal, and a subversive group within the government trying to overthrow the leadership. This book lines up nicely with Ruby Jane from the Montana Marshalls series in timeline and provides a bit more info into that series' overarching plot of traitors within the government. But that plotline still doesn't quite have closure yet and you'll need to delve into The Epic Story of RJ and York for more.

It's an exciting and satisfying conclusion to Global SAR series. I received the book from the publisher via LibraryThing and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own. ( )

The Price of Valor is the third and final book in the Global Search and Rescue series. While it is ok to read this one without reading the first two, I believe the reader would better feel for the characters if the other books had been read prior.

Ham is a former Navy SEAL who is searching for the love of his life and mother of the daughter he never knew he had. There is never a dull moment in this book and there were aspects of it that I certainly wasn't expecting. Although this is a Christian fiction book, some mature themes are present.

My thanks to the publisher, Revell, and Library Thing Early Reviewers for the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it. ( )
