Beautiful book about the beginning of a well loved librarian. A quick read with lovely illustrations that should be read by book lovers, young and old. ( )

This picture book biography focuses on Nancy Pearl's childhood, and how her school and public librarians encouraged her and set her on the path to be a readers' advisory librarian. ( )

As a child, I had a lot in common with young Nancy Pearl. Glasses, not fitting in, shy. Nancy's passion was horses while I tried to check out Gray's Anatomy at ten (after reading a lot of Perry Mason). Even more, I was led to many things and achievements by the librarians in our public library, just as librarians everywhere are doing for people of any age or language everywhere. The English in this book is perfect for ESL.
Sheryl Murray fills the pages with whimsical, colorful illustrations which add even more joy and meaning to this book.
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Sasquatch Books/Little Bigfoot via NetGalley. Thank you! ( )

Nancy is a solitary child. No children want to be her friend. The reason ? Nancy loves books. She spends every spared time at the School Library, devouring new stories. As she regrets not being able to come to school on Saturday to read more books, Miss Glen, the Librarian, tells the little girl about the Public Library. A brand new world opens to Nancy, but still a fear remains : will the children pick on her ?

Inspired by the life of Nancy Pearl, a renowned American Librarian, Library Girl is a declaration of love to Books, Libraries and Librarians. Through books, young Nancy travels to amazing countries and lives extraordinary stories. Books are her best friends when other children do not understand her and reject her. But it is also through them that the little girl will find courage, share what she learnt and find her path.

Sheryl Murray’s illustrations are colorful and beautiful. I love how she created ghostly creatures and sceneries to represent the stories inside the books. It is really poetic.
Library Girl : How Nancy Pearl Became America's Most Celebrated Librarian is really an amazing book : many book lovers will be inspired by the story and some may surely recognize themselves in Nancy’s misadventures. ( )
