"The Lost Episodes of Beatie Scareli" is a novel written as a hybrid of a bizarre television script with prose resulting in quick, readable, deftly crafted scenes.

Jacey25: another novel where things are vaguely unsettling and the concept of being watched on television takes an interesting twist- a fantastic quick read

This is an interesting book with just enough typos in it for me to suspect it is self-published. It tells the story of a seriously messed up family and a similarly damaged girl. It's a quick read and I enjoyed it quite a bit. ( )

I received this novel as a part of the "Early Reviewers" program and was only compelled to finish it due to a sense of obligation to the process. I utterly disliked it.

The book begins in a ham-fisted fashion with an overly self-conscious script like style that is both awkward and uninteresting. The main character is utterly unsympathetic. Her surroundings are squalid and the action chaotic. Many terrible things happen to Beatie, but I couldn't be bothered to care. She inspires no compassion, for she seems so utterly unrealistic and unlikable.

I read the book over a year ago, and don't remember many specifics, but am completely unwilling to read it again (a virtual unknown for me, as i will almost always read things multiple times) to recall them better. I can think of nothing that recommends this book. ( )

I enjoyed the interesting structure of this book, but overall, it was a total downer. ( )

I just finished this book and must say I have never read a book with such sadness and absurdity. The structure is experimental. The story is a simple one about abuse. Told through a simple perspective of a preteen girl. Funny, tragic. ( )

I didn't love this book, but I did find it interesting and enjoyable. Mostly I liked it due to the interesting and experimental structure. If you like stories of childhood and family drama, and are open to a different narrative approach, then this book is right for you. The main reason that I was not so into it has more to do with my relative disinterest in the subject mater, than to the way it is written or the quality of the work. ( )
