Beaucoup de suspense et de mésaventures dans cette épopée, d'abord un peu statique (espionnage industriel et problèmes techniques) puis plus franchement orientée vers l'aventure. On sourira devant la manière un peu cavalière avec laquelle Baxter engage nos héros comme astronautes mais le traitement du sujet spatial à cette époque force tout de même le respect. Et les paysages lunaires sont magnifiquement rendus. Le finale des deux albums est une merveille de tension. Esta edición, con una espectacular cubierta inédita, los reúne en un solo volumen, con motivo del 50 aniversario de los primeros pasos del hombre en la Luna (20 de julio de 1969). Esta obra empezó a publicarse en el semanario Tintín a partir del 30 de marzo del año 1950, diecinueve años antes de la llegada del hombre a la Luna. No se trata de ciencia ficción sino de una anticipación tan precisa como le fue posible al autor. Hergé entró en contacto con el doctor Bernard Heuvelmans, autor del libro L’homme parmis les étoiles (El hombre entre las estrellas), especialista en el tema, que colaboró con el equipo. Se realizó una maqueta extraordinaria del cohete, que fue sometida a la aprobación de Ananolf, autor del libro La astronáutica. Era enteramente desmontable y le permitía en todo momento al joven Bob de Moor, responsable principal de los decorados, saber en qué lugar de la nave espacial se encontraban los personajes. Hergé tiene la gracia de dar un tono humorístico a todas las escenas de explicaciones científicas que podrían aburrir al lector.
