In the future people are adverts. When you turn 18 you lose free speech and instead use corporate sponsored (and self endorsing) patches to speak. And Frith wants to be free.

This was such a unique book! It's short so I do wish some parts had been a bit more fleshed out. The idea of restricting free speech is such a common theme in dystopian books and this takes it a few steps further. Big corporations already control far too much of the world. The possibility of a future where they take our ability to do something as fundamental as speak our own minds is absolutely terrifying...… (mer)
