- Erik Brynjolfsson's work focuses on the business use of IT in general and Internet in particular.Erik Brynjolfsson is the Schussel Family Professor at the MIT Sloan School, the Director of the MIT Center for Digital Business, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research and teaching examine the effects of information technologies on business strategy, productivity and employment. His recent work studies data-driven decision-making and the role intangible assets. Brynjolfsson is a director or advisor for several technology-intensive firms and lectures worldwide on technology and strategy. His work has been recognized with 10 Best Paper prizes and five patents. He received his A.B. and S.M. degrees from Harvard and his Ph.D. from MIT

The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and… av Erik Brynjolfsson
The more I read, the less I know how to prepare my children and students for this rapidly changing world.
All in all, disappointing. Common sense opinions about the role of technology for the future of work and not much else.
Analysis of the impact of machines on economy, since the industrial revolution. Nothing really new under, some useful recaps and historical references.
Although the examples are a bit out-of-date, the authors do capture many of the relevant trends shaping the evolution of the workplace. The writing is incredibly approachable while incorporating an array of studies from economics, sociology, industrial relations and beyond. Their section on the superstar economy was particularly compelling.
Because they discussed that barriers (both psychological and financial) to organizational process change inhibit the productivity gains from new technologies, I can't help but wonder whether the current global pandemic and economic devastation will serve as an exogenous shock to catalyze many of the changes they discuss.… (mer)
