This well-done chapter book tells the biography of a very important woman of our past in a way that has clear meaning for people today. The language is simple, and well suited to elementary school children, young deaf readers, and those in an ESL program. The important reasons which bring her to mind whenever slavery and abolition are being discussed are further clarified by the small quiz, glossary, bibliography, and the repeated admonishments to THINK.
The illustrations by Sawyer Cloud and Simone Douglas are simple, imaginative, clear, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or teacher or your public library!

What a lovely children's book! First of all, I have to say kudos to the illustrator because so much work has been put into the gorgeous gorgeous pictures in this book. An absolute delight to not only read the words on the page but feel the colour through the book coming out at you. It is a nice and simple book; a good blend of generations and a good way to connect from children to adults. Highly recommend! Especially love the last few pages with the different names of flowers and descriptions - a nice, homey touch.… (mer)
